Winter Weather Manners

As we are gearing up for a winter snowstorm to hit Oklahoma today, I thought it would be good to revisit our “Winter Weather” manners.

- Check on the elderly…

  • Call to make sure they’re OK and offer your assistance.
  • If you’re able to get out, offer to take them food.
  • Offer to shovel their walk or drive.

- When driving, keep a safe distance.

  • This is no time for road rage, or impatience.
  • Do your best to clear the snow from your vehicle.  It’s a bit unnerving (not to mention dangerous) to have a sheet of ice fly off the top of the car in front of you and smash into your windshield.

- Be extra polite to the service providers who may be…

  • trying to get your electricity turned back on
  • trying to deliver your mail
  • trying to keep the entrance to your office building cleared

Stay warm and be safe.  Spring is coming – hopefully soon according to the groundhog.

Manner Monday: Don’t forgot to clear all of the snow from your vehicle

I think it’s safe to say, after last week, we’re all ready to get out of the house.  If your car has been outside during the past week, or is outside during the next snowstorm; please take a few extra minutes to clear the snow from your car before hitting the road.  This includes the hood, roof and trunk.  Just a few days ago, I witnessed something that could have turned ugly, very quickly… but thank goodness, it did not.  A little car, which resembled a snowman, was barreling down the turnpike, when whoosh… the top layer of ice and snow lifted from the roof of the car and smacked into the front of vehicle behind it.  Thank goodness, it hit the front of the following car and not the windshield.  I’m sure it was rather scary for the drive no matter WHERE it hit.

So please, take a few minutes and clear the snow from your vehicle.  And if you are driving and see someone who has snow on top of their car… steer clear and keep your distance!
